Dieterici Isotherms Applet:

This applet models the isotherms for the non-ideal gas, using the Dieterici equation. Isotherms are traces of the relationship between the volume and the pressure at a constant temperature.

The Dieterici equation is p = RT exp(-a/VRT) (V-b) -1, where V is the molar volume, p is the pressure, T is the temperature, and a and b are constants specific to a particular gas.

Click on T+ to increase the temperature, and T- to decrease it. Likewise, click on a+ to increase the parameter a, and a- to decrease it. Click on b+ to increase the parameter b, and b- to decrease it. The units of a are atm, and the units of b are 10 -2 L mol -1.
